Results-week one 2011 college football div 1-a wall of shame
Of the 120 schools playing div 1-a football, 118 played in week
one of the 2011 regular season. Alabama Birmingham (conf usa East) and Nevada
Reno (Western Athletic conference) were idle.
Thirty–eight of those teams played a div 1-aa opponent. All thirty-eight games were played at the home of the div 1-school.
Only two div 1-a teams lost to their div 1-aa opponent. (2/38=5.2%)
Oregon State (pac twelve N) lost to Sacramento State (big sky)
29-28, in overtime. (I guess the fact that head basketball coach Craig Robinson
is Barack Obama’s brother-in-law is not a great recruiting tool for head football coach, Mike Riley.)
Duke (acc coastal) lost to Richmond (colonial) 23-21. (It appears playing in Duke’s Wallace Wade Stadium for football coach David Cutcliffe does not hold
the same allure for top-notch high school talent as does playing in Cameron Indoor Stadium for basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski.)
The thirty-eight div 1-a teams scored a total of 1555 points (40.92
points/game). All as the home team.
The thirty-eight div 1-aa teams scored a total of 539 points (14.18
points/game.) All as the visiting team.
Of the forty games matching two div 1-a opponents, the forty winning
teams scored 1464 points (36.55 points/game).
The forty losing opponents scored 712 points (17.8 points/game),
In games matching a div 1-a opponent versus a div 1-aa opponent,
the winning score was about four touchdowns more than the losing score. (40.92 vs. 14.18)
When two div 1-a opponents played, the winning score was about
three touchdowns more than the losing score.
(36.55 vs. 17.8)
Among all 78 games in the first week, the home team scored a total
of 2895 points (37.11 points/game).
Among all 78 games in the first week, the visiting team scored
a total of 1373 points (17.58 points/game).
The visiting team only won 11 of the 78 games, scoring 311 points
(28.27 points/game).
In their losses, the 67 losing visiting teams scored 1062 points
(15.85 points/game).
In the 40 games where two div 1-a opponents played, the home team
scored 1340 points (33.5 points/game).
In the 40 games where two div 1-a opponents played, the visiting
team scored 834 points (20.85 points/game).
In the 40 games where two div 1-a opponents played, the home team
only lost nine games scoring 137 points (15.22 points/game). The nine victorious
visiting teams scored 259 points (28.78 points/game).
In the 40 games where two div 1-a opponents played, the visiting
team lost 31 times scoring 575 points (18.54 points/game). The 31 victorious
home teams scored 1203 points (38.81 points/game).
What does all this tell us?
It tells us that in spite of preaching honesty, integrity and
a level playing field, the home college football team has up to almost a three touchdown advantage. If you are a div 1-a team playing home to a div 1-aa visiting team, the advantage is even greater.
Neighborhoods, elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools
and cities, etc. all over the country are conducting seminars and classes on the rampant growth of bullying.
However, our esteemed institutions of higher learning, starting
with the presidents of the institutions, not only practice, but also condone bullying as a way of winning college football
games. I am not only embarrassed for you, but also by your actions.
