2011 season, week 1 and 2, div 1-a college football, wall of shame
Div 1-a college football seems to have no shame. Despite the scandals at Ohio State and Miami-FL and USC and countless others, div 1-a football schools
continue to sacrifice the integrity of the entire process by scheduling regular season games against div 1-aa schools. This is similar to the National Football League scheduling college teams for the first
couple of games of their season to pad the NFL team’s record.
All 120 div 1-a school presidents are to blame and well as the
NCAA governing body (which is in effect those same presidents) as well as the athletic departments including those “look
the other way folks” in the compliance departments as well as television executives as well as ESPN (why the heck do
we need a Texas Longhorn network sponsored by ESPN) etc. There is plenty of blame
to spread around
It seems to me, div 1-a college football is as corrupt an institution
as exists in America today. Greed, television money, chest pounding, bragging
rights, payoffs, holier than thou attitudes, etc. dominate. I would love to see
all teams in div 1-a college football incur the death penalty for one year. No
regular season games. No bowl games. No television. No tattoos. No recruiting trips. No scholarships. Nothing. It may be the only way we can fix this “institution
of higher learning mafia” that prevails today.
In weeks one and two of the div 1-a 2011 college football season,
55 teams play 57 games (Eastern Michigan and Wyoming each play two div 1-aa opponents) against div 1-aa opponents. All 57 games will be played at the home field of the div 1-a school.
